India Life Skills Glossary
Nurturing vital life skills in the Indian educational landscape.
The global education landscape has come to recognize the profound significance of life skills. India too has embarked on an educational revolution with the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. However, until November 2021, there existed no centralized repository for fundamental life skills tailored to the unique Indian context.
The Life Skills Collaborative’s (LSC) India Glossary of Life Skills is a pivotal development that has now swung open the doors to meaningful discourse on life skills within the Indian context. This Glossary, crafted in four languages (English, Hindi, Marathi, and Mizo), encompasses a comprehensive compendium of 52 life skills, each defined to resonate with the Indian ethos. It is the bedrock upon which life skills curricula are designed, and rigorous assessment tools are forged across diverse communities, practitioners, and regions.
Gnothi Seauton was tasked with the development of the Glossary, the initial launch (Phase 1). addition of language translations (Phase 2), and the promotion and adoption of the Glossary through an integrated marketing communications campaign
How do you engage an audience on a topic they are most likely encountering for the first time and have little knowledge of? How do you make it simple enough to teach and entertaining enough to learn? How do you balance the messaging aimed at both children and adults so it’s not too childish and remains professional?
This is what we were challenged with in developing the online design and messaging framework for the India Glossary of Life Skills.
Our design approach focused on three facets:
In-depth Understanding of the Target Audience
Crafting an Exceptional User Experience
Design Rooted in Future-Focus
Along with comprehensive timeline management, seamless approvals and feedback process we were able to efficiently transform concepts into functional components.
Intricate coding, rigorous testing, and seamless integration of various elements were implemented to ensure delivery of a cohesive and user-friendly platform.

Results:
The Glossary has served as a catalyst, empowering the Life Skills Collaborative to spearhead discussions on the integration of life skills education into the mainstream school curriculum across India. The glossary has been downloaded more than 700 times since its launch in November 2021.
We have also conceptualized and executed two dedicated "Glossary Months," (2022 and 2023) designed to enlighten and captivate educators, fostering a deeper understanding and engagement with the glossary's content.
